If you are looking to start a new covered area for your outdoor living project, you may have already explored the internet for what would be suitable and realized the three most popular options for covered outdoor living are cabanas, covered porches, or pool houses. Although pool houses are our favorite out of the three, they all have pros and cons. Read further to decide which is best for you!

Cabanas

Out of your three possibilities above, cabanas will most likely be the easiest and the most affordable. Some are free standing without any walls, but some are built with one wall to block strong winds. Whatever the case, a covered cabana is the ideal escape for when you want to spend time outside but don’t want to be out in the blazing sun. We all love summer, but when the midday sun is just too much a tropical drink and a shady spot in your new cabana is the perfect solution! Add comfortable outdoor furniture and transform your cabana into a space that will rival the comfort of any indoor room.  Many homeowners are discovering that a cabana is a great solution for those who would like to add an outdoor living area to their home quickly and affordably. If you are looking for a fun, simple addition to your backyard or patio, a cabana might be the best option for you.

Covered Porches

Anyone living in the South is familiar with the beloved covered porch. They typically have at least one or two walls, but you can still feel the breeze from the sides that are open. Sometimes covered porches are connected to the house or they are free standing with a fireplace or an outdoor kitchen. Covered porches are wonderful  because they provide different options for comfort without the commitment of a pool house. Every home should have a covered porch, whether it is in the front or back, screened or open air. It is an amazing place to read, have morning coffee, or a glass of wine with friends after a long day. Usually covered porches are a continuation of the home and they should feel as such. If you live in a region that has a lot of insects, a screened in porch may be your best option. They are great additions to a pool or pond, and will quickly become your favorite room. We love covered porches with fireplaces attached, a place to dine and some comfy outdoor furniture for napping.

Pool Houses

The addition of a sparkling pool brings additional needs of the people swimming, namely, a place to shower, change, shelter from the UV rays, and a bite to eat out of the sun. Pool houses are typically the most expensive and most complicated out of the three options – but definitely the most rewarding. They are the perfect addition for homeowners with a pool, especially a heated pool that is used in the winter. In the cooler months it is wonderful to be able to dash from the heated pool into the cozy pool house to use the restroom or put on dry clothes.

Pool houses with a bed and bath  can also double as a guest house, which is super convenient if you are used to hosting or having guests stay over frequently.
