OUTDOOR FIREPLACES AND FIRE PITS

A custom outdoor fireplace adds warmth, beauty, and a natural gathering place to your backyard. At Coogan’s Design-Build, we design and build outdoor fireplaces in Charlotte, NC that make outdoor living more comfortable, welcoming, and functional throughout more of the year.

Whether you want a fireplace beside a pool, under a covered porch, near a patio, or as the focal point of a complete outdoor living space, our team creates tailored designs that complement your home and the way your family lives. Since 1982, we have helped homeowners create beautiful residential spaces with thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and turnkey project management.

If you are planning a full backyard transformation, we can combine your fireplace project with a custom outdoor living space, covered porch, outdoor kitchen, patio or walkway, or even a custom inground pool and spa.

Custom Outdoor Fireplaces in Charlotte, NC

Every property is different, and the best outdoor fireplace design starts with the right location, scale, materials, and fuel source. Some homeowners want a rustic stone fireplace for wood-burning ambiance. Others prefer the clean convenience of gas. Many want a fireplace that anchors a larger entertaining area with seating walls, lighting, hardscape, and nearby dining space.

At Coogan’s Design-Build, we help homeowners choose the right fireplace style for the setting, whether that means a traditional masonry look, a more refined brick design, or a clean-lined feature that blends with a modern backyard. We also design fireplaces to coordinate with the architecture of the home so the finished space feels intentional and timeless.

Wood-Burning vs. Gas Outdoor Fireplaces

Choosing the right fuel type is one of the most important decisions in the planning process. Wood-burning fireplaces offer the crackle, aroma, and classic experience many homeowners love. Gas fireplaces offer easy start-up, lower day-to-day maintenance, and simple flame control. Some homeowners also prefer a wood-burning fireplace with a gas starter for added convenience.

If you are still deciding which option is best for your project, the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association provides a helpful overview of fireplace fuel types, and the HPBA outdoor fireplace resource page offers more information about outdoor hearth features.

Designed for Beauty, Comfort, and Function

An outdoor fireplace should do more than look attractive. It should improve the way the entire backyard works. We design fire features that create a strong focal point while also supporting the flow of the surrounding space. That may include placing the fireplace near a seating area, creating a visual anchor at the end of a pool, or integrating it into a covered porch for a more comfortable year-round outdoor room.

We also help you select materials that fit your home and outdoor environment. Natural stone, brick, stucco, and complementary hardscape materials can all be used to create a fireplace that feels custom to your property. If you want the finished area to feel especially cohesive, we can tie the fireplace design into your patio, retaining walls, columns, steps, landscape installation, and nearby architectural features.

For general fire safety guidance around outdoor fire features, the National Fire Protection Association is also a useful resource.
