Custom Outdoor Living Design Built Around Your Home
No two homes—or backyards—are exactly alike. That is why every project begins with a design tailored to your property, architecture, and goals. Some homeowners want a quiet retreat with comfortable seating and shade. Others want a complete entertainment space with a grill station, bar seating, fire feature, lighting, and room for guests. Our job is to create an outdoor living space that feels natural, inviting, and built to last.
We also design outdoor spaces to work well with Charlotte’s climate by incorporating durable materials, smart layouts, and comfort features like covered structures, shade, and integrated lighting. For homeowners thinking long term, the right design can improve both day-to-day enjoyment and property appeal. The National Association of Home Builders has noted that outdoor features remain high on buyers’ wish lists, which is one reason well-designed outdoor spaces continue to be such a valuable home upgrade. See NAHB design trends.
Patios, Seating Areas, and Backyard Gathering Spaces
A well-designed patio often becomes the foundation of a great backyard. We build custom patio and gathering areas that create a comfortable place to relax, entertain, dine, or spend time with family. Whether your style is clean and modern, timeless and traditional, or warm and natural, we help select finishes and layouts that complement your home and create a polished outdoor environment.
Many outdoor living projects also include custom hardscape elements such as walkways, sitting walls, steps, and transitions that improve both beauty and function. If your project includes a full backyard transformation, our team can also coordinate features that connect your outdoor living area with custom pools and spas or a complete hardscape design.
Outdoor Kitchens for Easy Entertaining
A custom outdoor kitchen can turn your backyard into a true entertaining destination. We design outdoor kitchens with features such as built-in grills, refrigeration, storage, durable countertops, serving space, and seating areas so cooking outdoors feels convenient and enjoyable. Whether you want a simple grill island or a fully equipped backyard kitchen, we design the space around how you like to cook and host.
Thoughtful outdoor kitchen planning matters. Storage, prep space, appliance placement, utilities, and circulation all need to work together for the space to feel comfortable and efficient. For homeowners researching best practices, the National Kitchen & Bath Association offers helpful guidance on designing outdoor kitchens and outdoor oasis spaces. Outdoor Fireplaces and Fire Features
Adding a fire feature brings warmth, ambiance, and a natural focal point to your outdoor living area. We design and build custom outdoor fireplaces and fire features that help extend the usability of your backyard through more of the year while creating a welcoming place to gather. From a cozy seating arrangement to a larger entertaining layout, fire features can add both comfort and visual impact.
Safety and proper placement are important parts of good design. The Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association offers homeowner safety guidance for fireplaces and hearth features, making it a helpful resource for understanding safe use and maintenance. Covered outdoor living spaces are especially valuable in the Charlotte area because they help create shade, improve comfort, and make it easier to enjoy your backyard in more weather conditions. A covered porch, pergola, or roofed seating area can define the space while also protecting furniture, softening direct sun, and making outdoor dining more comfortable.
Shade design is not just about appearance—it can also improve comfort and help reduce solar heat gain. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends shade features such as covered porches, awnings, pergolas, and similar elements as part of a smart home design strategy. See DOE guidance on shade and comfort. You can also visit our page on covered porches for more ideas.
